TP&W GP40
08/25/2009
So far all the models I have built, I have sold. Not directly to me, but I have heard of
people complaining or maybe just commenting on how expensive my models are.
With that in mind I thought I would write an article geared more toward a time & effort
study rather than a detailed description of how I built the model. This should let the
critics know exactly how much time and effort goes into building a custom model.
The cost of my models is $25.00 per hour modeling time plus the cost to purchase
the base model and detail parts. My time is rounded to the nearest minute. I keep a
detailed time sheet on exactly when I start working and when I put my tools down
and call it quits for that session. My work time is focused with no lolly gagging
around. This is solid work time. I think the cost is very reasonable. You can always
build the model yourself!

For this build, as you can see with the title, I have chosen the lone Toledo, Peoria &
Western GP40. It will be detailed and built in its original TP&W orange paint scheme
representing the mid 1970's prior to getting its Conrail style numbers. The most
chellenging part of this build is building the all weather cab window on the
engineers side.

being repainted in Santa Fe war bonnet blue & yellow. Note the Conrail style road
number on the cab and the Santa Fe style TP&W lettering on the nose.

represent.
