The weathering is progressing. It is a slow process, but it is moving ahead. By now I am up to
working on the model about 10 to 20 minutes each night. I'll mix up some wash, apply it and let it sit
for the next nights application.
After I apply the wash for the night, I go to working on my next
project.
The photos below show the deck/sill unit about 90% done. I only need to add a bit more dry
brushing to build up more grim
e on the pilot plates and add the final touches when the model is all
put together.
A bit of a dusty coat along the lower surfaces. The hood needs a lot more done to it.
Currently there is about 10 to 15 coats of wash on it plus some dry brushing. Same goes for the cab
and sub base.
You cannot see the hood weathering effects all that well in the photos. It is coming
out very well and the whole weathering process is coming out better than I expected. I am really
happy with the handrail shipping and the worn and weathered paint on the deck. It really pays to be
patient with this process and while you are waiting for the effects to dry, go work on something else.

My apologies for the blur in some of the photos.
Prior to applying the masking, I shot everything with a flat finish. I did this so when I pulled the tape
off, I would not pull off any of the weathering. I was a little worried that applying the flat finish would
diminish the weathering effects. I have not applied any pigments, just a number of wash coats and
dry brushing. The flat finish did just the opposite. It slightly enhanced it and worked out to my
advantage. The masking tape is a Tamiya product. After the tape application, I went over the seams
with a flat finish again to seal them up. I want to avoid as much as possible the next myriad of wash
coats from getting under the tape. I am also currently working on individually weathering each fan
hub/blade assembly.
As I mentioned above, everything now has a flat finish applied to it. The sub base and cab still have
a long way to go. They will get heavy washes applied to them just as the hood will and will come out
a very dark sooty gray/brown.

The decoder you see in the photos is a Tsunami. I have a base reflex speaker all setup inside the
hood.
