MODELING BNSF GP40M 3018, PAGE 4
With all the truck, frame and fuel tank detailing done. I can now secure the fuel tank to the frame. From here on
out, the fuel tank cannot be removed otherwise the plumbing to the air reservoirs will be destroyed. Because of
this, I drilled two large holes in the bottom of the tank for access to the motor mount screws. The ONLY reason
the tank would need to be removed is to get to these screws.
Here I have the a front left 1/4 view of the frame assembly. The wheels have their faces painted primer gray.
Later they will be painted and weathered. No plumbing to be added in this view.
With this one I have the rear left 1/4 view. I have added the plumbing to the rear of the air reservoir. I used the
parts from Details West AT-304 AIR TANK DETAIL SET, EARLY TO LATE EMD HOOD UNITS, COMPLETE
WITH PIPING.
In this front right 1/4 view you can see I have added the plumbing to the air filter set. The brass wire is 0.015"
diameter. The little shut of valve is from the same Details West AT-304 kit. I cut it off the piping, drilled it out
and slipped it onto the brass wire.
Here I have a closer view of the plumbing to the air filters. You can get an idea of how it is bent and installed.
Also you can see better how I milled the frame for the air filter mounting platform.
This final view is the rear right 1/4. No plumbing to be added here, but if you look closely I have added another
Cannon & Co. part. It is another type of drain block. It is a long rectangular shape with a fitting on one end. In
the photo below you can see it much better on a prototype. Notice the block just behind the air reservoir
attached to the underside of the frame.
All these parts are now ready for paint.
